How to Type Chinese Online
Typnivo opens with the virtual keyboard and Hanzi & Punctuation picker — click characters to insert directly. Switch to Pinyin Compose to type phonetic pinyin (ni, hao, xie) and press space after each syllable to convert to 汉字. When homophones exist, press 1–9 or tap a candidate. Unlike tone-mark-only tools (TypeIt, DigMandarin), Typnivo converts pinyin syllables into Chinese characters with a candidate panel — closer to an IME learning experience in the browser. Dictionary coverage is a curated subset for learners, not a full professional IME.
Simplified vs Traditional
Use the Simplified/Traditional toggle to switch output script. Mainland China uses Simplified; Taiwan and Hong Kong use Traditional. Existing text converts when you switch variants.
Mandarin Tones
Mandarin has four tones plus neutral — the same syllable with different tones has different characters (mā 妈, má 麻, mǎ 马, mà 骂). Tone numbers in pinyin (hao3) are stripped for lookup; use the Tone Marks tool for textbook pinyin output.
Typing Chinese on Mobile

How do I type Chinese online without installing an IME?

How is this different from a pinyin tone keyboard?
Typnivo converts pinyin syllables into Chinese characters (汉字) with selectable candidates, not just accented pinyin letters like hǎo.
Does Typnivo replace Microsoft Pinyin or Sogou?
No. Native IMEs offer fuller dictionaries and prediction. Typnivo is for occasional typing, learning, and devices where you cannot install software.
Can I switch between Simplified and Traditional?
Yes. Use the 简体/繁體 toggle in the toolbar. Output and existing text convert between variants.
How do I type ü (e.g. 女 nǚ)?
Use v in pinyin: type nv and press space — standard Hanyu Pinyin convention.
