How to Type Vietnamese Online

Telex Typing Method
Telex uses letters for diacritics: aa→â, aw→ă, ee→ê, oo→ô, ow→ơ, uw→ư, dd→đ. Tones: s (sắc), f (huyền), r (hỏi), x (ngã), j (nặng), z removes a tone. Switch input method in the toolbar to try Telex, VNI, or VIQR.

VNI Typing Method
VNI uses numbers: a8→ă, a6→â, d9→đ, e6→ê, o6→ô, o7→ơ, u7→ư. Tone digits 1–5 add sắc, huyền, hỏi, ngã, nặng. Switch to VNI in the method bar if you learned VNI at school or work.
Telex vs VNI
Both produce identical Unicode output. Telex is faster on QWERTY because it avoids number keys; VNI is easy to remember for beginners. Typnivo supports both plus VIQR for legacy forum text — switch anytime without leaving the page.
Remove or Restore Vietnamese Accents
The Unicode Tools panel strips diacritics (Tiếng Việt → Tieng Viet) for search or legacy systems, restores common words from unmarked ASCII, and normalizes broken Unicode to NFC. Apply results directly to the editor.
Vietnamese Tone Marks
Vietnamese has six tones including ngang (no mark). The same syllable with different tones has different meanings — ma, mà, má, mả, mã, mạ. Browse the tone examples in the Character Explorer.
Typing Vietnamese on Mobile
Typnivo works in mobile browsers with a touch-friendly editor and bottom-sheet virtual keyboard. If using Telex compose, disable keyboard autocorrect — it interferes with accent sequences. Use the sticky Copy toolbar after typing.

How do I type Vietnamese online without Unikey?

What is Telex typing?
Telex maps Vietnamese diacritics to QWERTY letters: aa→â, dd→đ, and s/f/r/x/j for tones. It is the standard method in Vietnam.
What is the difference between Telex and VNI?
Telex uses letters; VNI uses numbers (a8→ă, 1–5 for tones). Both output the same Unicode Vietnamese text.
How do I remove Vietnamese accents?
Use the Unicode Tools panel → Remove accents, then Apply to editor. Converts Tiếng Việt to plain ASCII like Tieng Viet.
Why are my accents wrong on mobile?
Turn off keyboard word suggestions/autocorrect. They break Telex key sequences before conversion runs.
Does this translate English to Vietnamese?
No. Compose mode adds diacritics to Vietnamese spelling — it does not translate meaning. Type Vietnamese syllables using Telex or VNI rules.
Is my typing sent to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser.
What is VIQR?
VIQR is a legacy ASCII convention using punctuation for tones (' ` ? ~ .). Typnivo supports it for old forum and email text.
